Our trek begins outside Caracas heading along the coastal road through Maracaibo and over the bridge that crosses the ocean access to Lake Maracaibo, through Barquisitmeto (say that fast 10 times) until finally arriving in Caracas, capital of Venezuela.

We have traversed most of the oil refineries in the country by now, with most of the oil fields on the coastal side of the country.  The reserves themselves were mostly established during the latter part of the Mesozoic era (aka Dino - era) and continue to hold vast reserves.

But onward we trek along the coastal road through Puerto La Cruz, Cumana then connecting to Rte 1 to the city of Maturin (oil capital of Eastern Venezuela).  From Maturin on "Route" 10 to Guyana City and across the Orinoco river, one of the largest in South America (often falls victim to the Amazon as a river that is forgotten but is pretty awesome in its own right).

Known for the "boto" (river dolphin), giant river otter and the rare Orinoco Crocodile (the latter of which greatly assists the race times in the annual swimming races they conduct in the river....just kidding - the crocs are rare and rarer still in this area).  The Orinoco originates in Columbia and culminates in the ocean farther up river from Guyana City near the Guyana border.

As we cross the Orinoco, we pass La Llovizna National Park, one of the most beautiful in the country - a great place for outdoor activities....like HIKING!!!

Our 630 miles for the day takes us roughly 42 miles past the Orinoco on "Route" 10.

Who most wants to escape Venezuela and set our pace for 6/2?  Here they are.....

Mary Hoisington - Great Bend
Sabastian Wee - Gainesville
Sheila Jones - WCBI
Shonita Swank - Great Bend
Heather Griffin - Forsyth
Tyler Stone - Morris Technology
Marlin Nesmith - Statesboro
Ray Funk - Great Bend
Tyler Swank - Great Bend
Jana Hestand - Great Bend

A total for the group of 15,871 miles, average of 11,905 steps per day.  197 participants averaging over 14 daily inputs out of a total possible of 20.  Great job all!!!

All subject to when miles are input.  We may have some catch-up on 6/3.  We'll need it - Amazonian jungle basin is fast approaching.

The grocery store shelves are empty, inflation is through the roof and the country is in total disarray. There is no freedom of the press, speech or even the right to protest. The government is oppressive and human rights violations are atrocious.
And you wonder why we want to get out?
We love Bernie...but Venezuela is helping us see clearly that's probably not the direction we want to go...
