Stepping out from outside Guayana City heading further down route 10, through Upata, Guasipati and the infamous town of El Dorado with its notorious prisons are encouragement to go farther...much farther.
The trek has the group actually touching a corner of Guyana (formerly British Guiana) before continuing through Canaima National Park, which hosts two of the tallest waterfalls in the world, features several of the oldest plateaus, and sports much wildlife (including potential hiker consuming wildlife of jaguars and cougars) to provide potential sustenance or good reason to flee with speed. The National Park is also roughly the size of Maryland with rock formations over a billion years old.
On the other side of Canaima (drum roll please) we continue from Venezuelan route 10 to.......Brazilian route 174 - WOOHOO! Right country, but still a fair distance from the right place.
We are fast approaching Boa Vista, the only Brazilian state capital that lies north of the equator!!! It is also the least populated, though it is growing faster than most others.
We have also picked the hot, humid rainy season In this part of Brazil - April to November - which is interestingly the opposite for the rest of the Country.
